This is one of the best guides to use SPSS out there. They're not in their 14th edition for nothing. Instructions are detailed enough for good understanding but still brief. Step-by-step instructions for use of SPSS are clear. Perhaps most importantly, how to interpret the statistics is also included. This book has only gotten better with each new edition. Best of all - the authors have a sense of humor, which in my view, is essential in a topic like this. I recommend this book to my master's level and Ph.D. level students. It's appropriate for undergraduate as well. This book is guaranteed to get used by anyone who purchases it to help them run their statistics.
This is just the book I was looking for. I am a PhD demographer/statistician in a new position. And I needed to learn SPSS versus R and SAS. I know statistics. I just needed to learn SPSS, i.e., I know how to do it, how do I do it in this new language? Chapter 4, Managing Data, was the biggest "ah" for me. Getting data in the 'right' place and frame is incredibly important for me. Then I can do the statistical stuff required. This is the first and only 'stats' or 'programming' book I've ever read page-by-page, cover-to-cover. And I now go back and forth seamlessly between SPSS and R, even checking my coding in both by arriving at the same 'answers'. If you know stats, bypass Field's book to this one.
Very impressed with the book so far. I am only just over half done, but the content is well described with pictures and figures that not only reinforce the concept but are also what you see when you follow along with your SPSS version 23 program. I bought this book and a 1 year gradult student Liscence for the program and decided to get a head start on the Research Statistics course I'll be taking this coming fall semester. I feel this book will give me an advantage in a course that has a 25 to 30% drop out rate for those who take the course the first time.
Excellent book on working with SPSS. I purchased this book before realizing I could have bought an online version through my university, but I decided to keep the paper copy. Must have if you are working with data or are taking a statistic/ related course.
I love this book. Crystal clear explanation of why one would need a statistical test and then explanations of how to run in SPSS. Initially rented but decided to buy because it's so helpful.
The guides' set up is practical, and easy to follow. Also very readable, and a quick read as well. Better is you have SPSS on your computer to follow along.
It's a text book don't buy it if they offer it for free in the library. Its definitely a tool and will be useful if you need to buy it.
This covers the topics well, good combination of 'button pushing' mechanics and enough of the math talk to let you know of the math concept behind the button but, not overwhelm you.
